About Orasio
Orasio builds cutting-edge solutions that automatically detect situations of interest in video streams.
Powered by advanced AI models trained to extract actionable insights from imagery, our technology is designed to be deployed within both existing and new infrastructures, across public and private sectors, civilian or military, while strictly adhering to legal and privacy frameworks.
As artificial intelligence becomes a key pillar of technological sovereignty, Orasio’s mission is to become Europe’s leading video intelligence company.
We develop world-class AI solutions tailored to defense and public safety needs, combining technical excellence with a deep respect for data protection laws.
The Role
- Own the engineering of Orasio’s Forensic vertical end to end, in close partnership with the Product Lead.
You will be accountable for its architecture, technical roadmap, engineering execution, reliability and scalability.
- Partner with the Product Lead, who owns product and business strategy, while you own the technical strategy, architecture and engineering execution of the vertical.
- Build the investigation product that forensic units, criminal investigators and scientific police rely on to turn hours of heterogeneous video into evidence.
- Deliver a platform that is fast, traceable and trustworthy enough to stand up in a legal process.
Investigators work with video from everywhere: CCTV, private cameras, body cameras, dashcams, phones, drones, exports from dozens of VMS and proprietary formats.
You will make this chaos searchable, correlatable and reportable, in on-premise and air-gapped environments where reliability and security are not negotiable.
This is not a traditional senior developer role.
You are the CTO-pair of the vertical: you own the architecture, the technical roadmap and the delivery, while working directly with investigators to understand how they actually work.
You will lead a small squad of engineers.
Responsibilities
Technical ownership
- Build and lead the engineering team for the vertical as it scales, setting a high bar for architecture, code quality, velocity and operational excellence.
- Be accountable for the forensic product in production, from architecture and development to deployment, performance, reliability and incident resolution.
- Make explicit trade-offs between speed, scope, quality and long-term maintainability
- Lead delivery across software, ML and Platform engineers, and deployment engineers
- Turn lessons from each deployment into reusable capabilities shared across Orasio's products
Product engineering
- Design and build fullstack features across our React frontends and Fast API backends
- Build ingestion pipelines for large volumes of heterogeneous video, formats, codecs and metadata
- Build multi-camera, multi-source investigation workflows: search, timeline reconstruction, correlation, geospatial views and video playback
- Surface ML outputs (detection, re-identification, attribute and semantic search) in ways investigators can verify and trust
- Build reporting and export features that produce clear, court-ready outputs
- Integrate with third-party VMS, evidence management systems and customer infrastructures
- Contribute to our shared Type Script, Python and Rust libraries
Trust, integrity and compliance
- Design for chain of custody: integrity checks, hashing, immutable audit logs and full traceability of every action and transformation applied to a video
- Build security, privacy, permissions and auditability into every technical decision
- Apply GDPR, the Law Enforcement Directive and the EU AI Act in the design of the product
- Care about performance, reliability and security in constrained, on-premise and air-gapped environments
Team and field
- Spend time with investigators, forensic analysts and scientific police units to observe real casework
- Take part in deployments and support our Deployment Team on site when needed
- Participate in architecture discussions and code reviews, push back on complexity and help raise the bar of the codebase
- Ideal Profile
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, with significant ownership of production systems
- Proven experience leading the engineering of a product, platform or major technical domain end to end
- Track record of making consequential architecture decisions and being accountable for their long-term outcomes
- Experience leading and raising the bar for a small team of strong engineers, while remaining deeply hands-on
- Backend: solid experience with Python and Fast API (or equivalent async Python frameworks)
- Database: strong experience with Postgre SQL at scale, including schema design, migrations and query performance
- Frontend: strong expertise in React and Type Script, with maintainable and testable UI code
- Good grasp of system design, REST API design, async programming and the trade-offs of event-driven systems
- Pragmatic about engineering: writes the minimum code that solves the problem, reuses before duplicating, and is rigorous about types, tests and quality
- Ability to talk with non-technical users in high-stakes settings and turn their needs into simple workflows
- Familiar with AI tooling for the developer experience
- Fluency in French and English
- Eligibility for the required security clearances, including NATO levels
- Bonus
- Experience with video (FFmpeg, GStreamer, HLS/Web RTC, video player UX) or media processing pipelines
- Experience with forensic, investigation, e-discovery, case management or evidence management software
- Experience with geospatial UIs, timelines or graph-based analysis tools
- Experience integrating AI/ML models into product workflows (inference results, vector search, embeddings)
- Experience with data integrity, audit trails, digital signatures or legally sensitive data
- Experience operating services on Kubernetes or other containerized on-prem deployments
- Experience building software for on-premise or air-gapped environments
- Experience in public safety, internal security, defense or the judicial sector
- Entrepreneurial or early-stage experience
What We Offer
- Founder-level technical ownership of a strategic product vertical
- Direct access to investigators and forensic units, with real casework as your product compass
