Offer Description
Mission
The calculation of the scattered field from a manufactured object or a rough surface finds applications in remote sensing and Radar stealth. Asymptotic/approximated methods can be developed to solve this issue. In comparison to a full-wave method, like the method of moments (MoM), they are able to provide rapid results, but their precision is not well-known. On the other hand, the MoM gives “exact” results, but the computer resources need to solve the resulting linear system can be prohibitive. In addition, the increasing of the dielectric permittivity significantly increases the size of the linear system. A means to solve this issue is to apply the impedance boundary condition or Leontovich approximation. Firstly, the selected candidate will investigate this approach, which will be validated from the PMCHWT (Poggio Miller-Chang-Harrington-Wu-Tsai) surface integral equation solved by the Galerkin MoM Rao Wilton-Glisson basis functions. For a single realization of the sea surface, the monostatic scattered far-field will be computed from IBC and compared with PMCHWT versus the incidence angle and the wind speed. The program will be written in MatLab. Secondly, in the same way, to treat the electromagnetic scattering from an object coated with a thin layer, the Higher Order Impedance Boundary Condition combined to the MoM will be implemented.
