Process Engineer - Semiconductor Processes at Quandela, Palaiseau, Île-de-France, France. A executive-level full time position in the Products team, listed under hardware engineering.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Process Engineer to develop and industrialize semiconductor fabrication processes, bridging Advanced R&D and Production. This hands-on role focuses on dry etching (ICP-RIE), PECVD and metal evaporation. Working closely with R&D and cleanroom operators, you will improve device performance, process reproducibility, yield and throughput.

1. Equipment Validation and Recipe Transfer

  • Define and run acceptance tests with the maintenance engineer.
  • Transfer and optimize recipes on new equipment.
  • Establish maintenance, cleaning and conditioning procedures.
  • Validate wafer-to-wafer and day-to-day reproducibility through extended runs.

2. Production Capacity and Yield

  • Prepare processes for larger wafers, batches and production volumes.
  • Improve process robustness, uniformity and yield.
  • Establish process monitoring, KPIs and Statistical Process Control (SPC) where relevant.
  • Investigate process drifts, yield losses and equipment issues; implement corrective and preventive actions.

3. Device Performance

  • Optimize fabrication parameters, particularly dry etching, using structured experimentation and scientific literature.
  • Correlate process data with structural, optical and electrical characterization to understand their impact on device performance.

4. R&D-to-Production Transfer

  • Turn R&D building blocks into stable, documented manufacturing processes.
  • Assess manufacturability, scalability and process risks.
  • Contribute to Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and define appropriate controls.

How You Will Grow

First 3 months: Learn Quandela’s fabrication and characterization flow and contribute to ongoing technical challenges. Within 6 months: Take ownership of a tool, validate new equipment and support the transition to larger wafers and batches. Within 1 year: Improve device performance, strengthen statistical process monitoring and support increasing production volumes.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of plasma etching physics and diagnostics, such as actinometry, ion-flux measurements or residual gas analysis.
  • Experience with plasma-tool maintenance and process-drift correction.
  • Experience with industrialization, R&D-to-production transfer, PFMEA, control plans, SPC or Design of Experiments (DoE).
  • Experience with optoelectronic-device design and characterization.
  • Knowledge of III‑V semiconductors, particularly AlGaAs photonic structures, resonators or VCSEL technologies.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, flexible based on your experience
  • Profit-sharing & company savings plan
  • 100% health coverage (Alan)
  • 50% transport reimbursement or sustainable mobility bonus
  • Meal vouchers (Swile), Gymlib fitness support
  • Childcare assistance & referral bonuses (€1,000–€2,000)
  • A meaningful role with real ownership, from day one
  • A team eager to collaborate and grow with you
  • Daily exposure to the entire quantum stack — from high-level APIs to low-level firmware, and everything in between.
