Earthworm is a group of people who believes we can solve the big issues affecting people and nature today. We work in global supply chains impacting millions of people and places around the world to make the products we buy. We work on the ground, in forests, fields and factories, helping companies, farmers and communities find practical solutions together. And we know that, ultimately, trust and positive changes comes from people getting to work together, hands in the soil.

Your Role

We are looking for a Full Stack Developer to build our Farmer Data Solution, a shared platform that helps Earthworm Foundation teams collect, manage and use farmer and farm data. Starting with regenerative agriculture projects in Europe, the solution will bring data from different sources together, improve its quality and support the monitoring of farming practices and environmental outcomes.

This is a hands-on development role, covering the full development lifecycle of the platform, from initial design and implementation through deployment and ongoing improvement. You will work closely with the project lead, our data engineer, subject matter experts and end users, as well as a senior external software consultant supporting solution architecture and complex technical challenges. You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the platform and for helping ensure that the knowledge and technical decisions required to maintain and improve the solution remain accessible and well documented.

In this role, you will:

  • Implement the PostgreSQL database in collaboration with our data engineer, including database setup, schema development, validation rules, historical records and reliable import and export workflows, based on the defined data model.
  • Build and maintain accessible, responsive web interfaces and back-end services for entering, validating, reviewing and managing farmer, farm and other field data.
  • Develop APIs and integrations with farm management systems, carbon assessment tools and geospatial services, working with the data engineer on data pipelines and analytical outputs.
  • Apply security best practices, including user authentication, role-based permissions, and change tracking, to protect personal and confidential data.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests, continuously improve development workflows, including CI/CD pipelines to automate testing and deployment. Use approved AI-assisted coding tools where appropriate, reviewing generated code carefully and protect confidential information.
  • Collaborate with IT colleagues on hosting, monitoring, logging, backups and other operational practices to ensure the platform remains reliable and secure.
  • Create clear technical documentation, support testing and rollout, troubleshoot issues and contribute to the maintenance and evolution of the platform.

Your Profile

You enjoy building software that people use in their daily work. You are comfortable turning broad requirements into practical features, asking questions and explaining technical choices to colleagues with different backgrounds. You organise your work, communicate progress and risks early, and adapt as priorities evolve. You value constructive feedback and take care to write secure, maintainable code.

You bring:

  • At least 3years of professional full stack development experience, including applications you have helped deploy and support in production.
  • Solid SQL and relational database skills, ideally PostgreSQL, including schema implementation, migrations and query optimisation.
  • Experience developing and consuming REST APIs, integrating external systems and handling inconsistent or incomplete data.
  • Good software engineering practices, including Git, automated testing, code review and documentation, with experience using CI/CD workflows and containers such as Docker.
  • Experience implementing authentication and role-based access, and an understanding of how to protect personal data.
  • The ability to work with technical and non-technical colleagues, contribute to solution design and take ownership of development tasks through to delivery.
  • Using AI-assisted development tools to improve coding, testing or documentation while checking the quality of their output.

Additional experience that would be useful:

  • Linux server environments, cloud deployment, configuration management, or service monitoring and logging, for example with Prometheus or Grafana.
  • Experience with PostGIS, web mapping applications, agricultural or environmental data, field data collection with limited connectivity, or integrations with analytical tools such as Tableau.

Workings Conditions

  • Education: preferably graduated in Computer science or related field.
  • Experience: 5 years minimum.
  • Language(s): English, French and Spanish are a plus.
  • Employment: Full-time, Fixed term 1 year.
